About the Project
The Sandbridge Road Nimmo Parkway Phase VII-A project is part of a multi-phased project to improve access to Sandbridge Beach in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Sandbridge Road is the only accessible road in and out of the beach community which poses multiple challenges for residents, visitors and emergency services. The narrow two-lane roadway has multiple sharp curves, no shoulder, and has a history of flooding from rain, wind, tides and storms. In the last decade, improvements have been made to improve flood concerns, including constructing a new bridge over Hell’s Point Creek.
During Phase VII-A, Branscome made multiple improvements to a multi-mile stretch of Sandbridge Road including road realignment, raising the roadway elevation, adding an on-road bike lane and a 10-foot shared use path.
