Project Description

6-inch GEOWEB® geocell provides slope support for several earthen berms constructed at naval bases in the Tidewater area of Virginia.

A total of 40,020 square feet of GEOWEB GW30V was installed and connected with ATRA® Keys. Woven Polyester Tendons were anchored to a deadman pipe at the top of the berm.

The cellular confinement system was filled with on-site fill and covered with biodegradable Eco-Jute. LSC Earth Tack was applied for additional erosion control protection and dust control.

Superior Soil Confinement: Confining soil in the HDPE cells provides superior erosion protection to withstand the impact of ammunition. This results in reduced maintenance, repairs and reconstruction.

Safer Alternative to Metal: Metal is forbidden in gun range construction as it would be a ricochet hazard. GEOWEB’s HDPE design is safe and doesn’t require metal for installation. In this application, the system was connected using plastic ATRA® Keys, ATRA® Tendon Clips and Woven Polyester Tendons. Once GEOWEB panels were connected, Tendon Clips and Tendons were threaded through the system. The cellular confinement system was anchored to the deadman pipe then suspended over the berm without the need for metal stakes for attachment.
