Maplewood Solar is a 120 MW utility-scale solar facility in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. Commercial operation of Maplewood commenced in December 2023. The solar site produces clean, renewable energy for Dominion Energy and can power up to 30,000 homes at peak output.
Colonial Construction Materials, Inc. supplied Wood Group USA (EPC) with erosion control products, geotextiles and stormwater solutions from August 2021 until March 2023. Our experience supplying utility-scale solar farms positioned us as a dependable site-work supplier that met timelines and project budgets while offering value-engineering solutions for various site challenges.
Material Supplied During Construction
“We used Biotic Earth on the Maplewood project. We had a lot of areas where we were having issues with getting growth. Colonial recommend this product and we tried a few pallets of it on a reclaimed laydown area where we couldn’t get growth no matter what we tried. After using [Biotic Earth] we had healthy growth very quickly. We ended up using it site wide and it sped up getting offsite by a few months due to the success. Even with a little bit higher cost on the front end, I saved about 40% on the tail end of the project due to touching areas only one time and the speed of application.
